The IAC Central Asia Vis Pre-Moot 2025 was held for the 5th consecutive year. The competition has become the premier law student arbitration moot competition in Eurasia. It promotes the study of international commercial law and arbitration for the resolution of international business disputes through its application of a ‘real-life’ practical legal problem, helping to develop future lawyers in arbitration practice.
This year’s competition was held in hybrid format with participation in person and online. 50 teams registered to participate and 24 teams from 13 countries were selected to compete in the preliminary rounds. The students represented top global and regional universities from the UK, France, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and from throughout Eurasia. 32 highly experienced professional arbitrators from 12 law firms from 11 countries presided over the preliminary rounds.
The US State Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Programme (“CLDP”) provided international arbitrator counsel training to Eurasia based law students from October until December 2024. The students also received extensive training from senior lawyers from White & Case LLP, led by Mr. Matthew Drossos (Partner, White & Case LLP, Washington DC, US), and from the IAC Central Asia Vis Pre-Moot Alumni Association (246 members from 14 countries; all members are past IAC Central Asia Vis Pre-Moot participants).
The Final was presided over by Mr. Thomas Krümmel (IAC Chairman), Ms. Aigoul Kenjebayeva (Partner, Dentons), and Mr. Pavel Boulatov (Counsel, White & Case LLP). The student teams in the Final were: The University of International Business and Economics (China), and CHRIST Deemed to be University (India). CHRIST Deemed to be University (India) won the Final. Mr. Prateek Ayyapaan (CHRIST Deemed to be University, India) was awarded Best Oralist in the Final.
