The AIFC Court held the first meeting of its Junior Moot Committee ahead of the first AIFC Court Junior Moot Competition which will happen at the AIFC Court premises in March 2026.

Since its inception in 2018, the AIFC Court Moot Competition has been instrumental in developing legal talent among university law students in Kazakhstan and more widely in Eurasia. In 2026, the AIFC Court will extend the opportunity to Kazakhstan based high school students for the first time, providing a unique platform for high school pre-law students to engage with common law dispute resolution skills.

The AIFC Court Junior Moot will simulate real court proceedings before the AIFC Court. High school students will act as counsel, prepare written submissions, and deliver oral arguments, under the supervision of AIFC Court case managers. The competition is designed to strengthen high school students’ advocacy, critical thinking, and public-speaking skills via real-life disputes scenarios in a real Court setting. It will promote an early understanding of common law legal reasoning and AIFC Court common law procedure.

The Organising Committee comprises students from eight Kazakhstan-based high schools and will invite high school students to contribute to the development and delivery of the Moot competition. During the first meeting, the Committee discussed the expected impact of the Junior Moot competition and assigned organisational roles and responsibilities for the March 2026 Junior Moot competition.

Hundreds of students from Kazakhstan and across Eurasia have participated in the AIFC Court’s and IAC’s annual competitions over the years. This long-term commitment by the AIFC Court and IAC to youth development has continually enhanced and prepared future lawyers while also raising the AIFC Court’s and IAC’s profile and positive impact in Kazakhstan and wider Eurasia as the preferred choice by investors for international commercial dispute resolution in Eurasia.

During his recent visit to Astana, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Burnett of Maldon, Chief Justice of the AIFC Court, met with Mr. Aslambek Mergaliyev, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, as part of continued enhancement of cooperation between the AIFC Court & IAC and the Supreme Court.

The AIFC Court & IAC are independent of the national courts of the Republic of Kazakhstan but cooperate closely on matters of mutual interest, including on enforcement of AIFC Court judgments in foreign countries, and the continual improvement of the administration of justice and the rule of law in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The AIFC Court & IAC support the Republic of Kazakhstan and other countries in the Eurasia region as dispute resolution ‘Centres of Excellence,’ applying and promoting the highest international standards of independence and impartiality in accordance with the rule of law.
