The AIFC Court and IAC are delighted to invite participants to join, free of charge, an ONLINE COURSE: “Interpreting Commercial Contracts in the AIFC” (The AIFC Court and IAC Accredited Certificate on Interpreting Contracts). This training course will be delivered by Professor Marc Moore, Chair in Corporate & Financial Law at UCL Laws, London, UK. It will provide participants the general legal rules and principles that apply when determining the meaning of disputed commercial contract provisions under AIFC and English law.

PROGRAMME:

Session 1: “An Introduction to Principles of Contract Interpretation under AIFC and English Law”. 

Time: 14:30 - 16:00 Nur-Sultan time / 09:30 - 11:00 London time.

In this initial 90-minute online session, Professor Moore will introduce participants to the general legal rules and principles that apply when determining the meaning of disputed commercial contract provisions under AIFC and English law.

Session 2: “Application of Principles of Contract Interpretation in Commercial Law Practice”. 

Time: 17:00 - 18:30 Nur-Sultan time / 12:00 - 13:30 London time.

In this subsequent 90-minute online session, Professor Moore will provide participants with a hypothetical case study involving certain uncertain and contested commercial contract terms. Participants will be asked to study and reflect on the relevant terms in the light of the legal rules and principles discussed in the previous session.

About the trainer:

Marc Moore is Chair in Corporate/Financial Law, Faculty of Laws, University College London. He joined the Faculty of Laws in September 2019. Prior to this, he was Reader in Corporate Law and Director of the Masters in Corporate Law (MCL) degree at the University of Cambridge. Previously he has held teaching positions at the University College London and the University of Bristol, and also visiting teaching positions at the University of Auckland and Seattle University.

Marc is the author of Corporate Governance in the Shadow of the State (2013, Hart), which was shortlisted for the 2013 SLS/Peter Birks Book Prize. He is also the co-author (with Professor Martin Petrin) of Corporate Governance: Law, Regulation and Theory (2017, Palgrave). In 2012, Marc was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize for outstanding researchers who have made a significant contribution to their field of study.

Marc is the co-editor (with Professor Christopher Bruner) of Hart Publishing’s Contemporary Studies in Corporate Law monograph series, and the co-editor (with Professor Hse-Yu Chiu) of Palgrave/Red Globe Press’ Corporate and Financial Law textbook series. He is Deputy Chief Examiner for Company Law on the University of London’s external LLB programme and has previously held visiting teaching positions at the University of Auckland and Seattle University. Marc has been invited to give guest lectures and seminars in various countries.
